I volunteered to act as a “Guinea Pig” for a young instructor taking his Sea Kayak Leader award. The nice thing here is that I have to fall in the water, so there’s no shame if it happens. The plan had been to paddle from Salcombe, but that was rearranged.
I’m not completely sure how much swell there was, I suspect round Thatcher Rock it might have been exceeding 1.5 meters. I’m still finding turning (edging) in that kind of swell non-trivial. But overall I really enjoyed the session; and I know I can do a heel hook in those conditions.
