Exeter Canal

This was Debbie’s first time paddling for a while. We opted not to go to Broadsands but instead chose Exeter Canal. We parked at Bromham’s Farm Car Park (I always want to call this Clapperbrook Lane Carpark, but that’s the official name. I guess now there is a train station there they council had to do something and pay by phone means they don’t need to install any infrastructure. It is free for 2 hours, as long as you use RingGo).

We paddled up to the Quay; Debbie didn’t fancy going out on to the Exe on this occasion so we turned round and headed for Double Locks. I tried to get out on the higher pontoon, Debbie suggested the other side. As I didn’t quite get back into the boat correctly (I sat on the backrest) I lost my balance and fell in. Therefore I decided to swim to the other side (the side the Pub is on) and climb out. Food isn’t served until 12, so we had a coffee and returned.

We managed to paddle back without any further incident, with a plan to return and have a look at the Exe by the Quay next time.
