Rolling practice with Adam

This was a little spontaneous, but Adam offered some “rolling” and “rescue” practice and I signed up. Warmed up with the usual T-rescues. Possibly identified a little flaw and I now have an exercise to work on, like a high brace recovery only I sweep. This is not so much about the start position, as getting used to having my back low to the boat when I go back into an upright position. At the moment, I still know what that feels like; whether I’ll understand these notes in a years time if I don’t keep up the practice in another question. Also, managed a couple of cowboy style self rescues (and a failed attempt, frustratingly I got myself back in the cockpit but failed to get my legs in). Practiced wet rescues (remember to make the most of edging my boat, rescued boat side down to get it on top, and rescued side up to help drain). Also, try to push boat into the right position first rather than turning it round. Did another rescue which would be appropriate(ish) if the paddler had a fractured collar bone (a bit like the one where you get in underwater and roll yourself back up, although you are dragging the casualty’s spraydeck to get them in before pulling them out). Went through hand of god routine (I nearly messed that up as I leapt too soon to grab the target boat). Also, spent a bit of time sitting on top of the boat behind the cockpit as a balance exercise. I’ve convinced myself I’m not in the market for a cheap fibre glass boat with a very small cockpit, but I like the balance practice, and will do more. Finally, rolling. Yes, I’m rolling. I need to take my time to rotate my body and set up, and be mindful off sweeping with the off hand position against the boat.
