Caves near Penlee Point

This was an interesting paddle. The conditions weren’t particularly challenging, but neither was it completely straightforward. We headed more or less directly to the East end of the Breakwater, taking a dogs leg to look at a cruise ship moored up (which was running a pretty busy taxi service to Phoenix Wharf by the looks of things). We then rock hopped along the outside of the Breakwater, which had enough swell to keep it interesting. Then we cut over towards Penlee Point, to have a look in a gully shortly before we would have got there. There were proper caves, you could paddle in far enough it would have been nice to have had a torch (it wasn’t pitch black, they didn’t go that far, but it would have been great to have a little help). We then went near Cawsand, but didn’t stop as it was too busy preferring the beach on the far side by the “tents”. We did a bit of rock hopping to Fort Picklecombe and then came home via Drake’s Island, Winter and the Mallard.

Someone left their mobile phone on the beach after lunch.
