So there aren’t many entries here because I’ve torn my meniscus. In fact, I finally saw an NHS physiotherapist today (13th October) who basically confirmed the problem. Anyway, I saw a post that there would be a short paddle, in calm conditions so it seemed too good an opportunity not to see how I got on in a kayak. It was definitely harder to edge to the left than the right, but I also think I could edge the boat using my hips if I really needed to. I didn’t get that completely figured out though.
Anyway, I took my short kayak because the cockpit opening is slightly bigger and because I can scrape it down a beach or slipway. That means I don’t have to worry about getting my right leg bent and in the boat while I’m still afloat. As it happens, that all seems to work well enough, what was harder was getting out the boat. My right leg didn’t seem to want to take my weight. Maybe that would be easier in the Sea Kayak because I stand on both legs?
Basically, we paddled over the see the rear end of the luxury flats being built at Fort Bovisand. I had a really good look in the cave (went in far enough to see daylight via another entrance round the corner).
It turns out there were a lot of paddlers on this trip because there was no leader for the “normal” paddle. I think I reassured myself I’m good for short calm paddles, I guess the next step would be to try a longer calm paddle.

It makes me smile, when I see it.
